These conversations are the sink and source of emotional connection and inspiration for superb deeds. After inspirational conversations, ideas should be documented into a discussion paper, or may be a proposal, depending on where we are within the exchange. Many of us sit for hours at our desks, pondering of essentially the most eloquent words to construct our fundraising elevator pitch. This solitary exercise seems fairly haunting generally, when apparently the fountain of inspiration is dry. I found the best way to construct a strong pitch just isn't within the solitude of my workpl ace. The greatest pitches come from collective efforts, choosing the brains of the people who make issues happen. I find the duty of bringing together disparate and sometimes apparently opposite approaches very useful. This strategy could also be somewhat more time intensive, nevertheless it helps our colleagues understand the aim of our work as fundraisers, and it helps us put together a proposal that is extra practical and deliverable. This train allows us to identify beforehand some potential stewardship points, and brings us fundraisers nearer to the individuals working within the trenches of our organizations. Looking from the perspective of building sturdy relationships with our inner purchasers, having our colleagues more concerned within the fundraising side of the home creates a sense of connectedness and ownership. At the identical time, we increase our “antenna” system to identify and join with extra potential prospects. After you get to verify the outcomes of those c ollective efforts, taking the time to indicate appreciation and thank our collaborators is extraordinarily necessary. They are helping us turn into simpler and competent. They are the folks that aren't counted as fundraising employees, however they improve our capacity to allow the circulate of philanthropic dollars to our organizations. There is strength in numbers, and indeed there is power in unity. Nancy Cardozo has over 21 years of professional expertise working within the non-for profit and higher schooling sectors. Knowing what is important to us, being able to express what we hope for and dream about doing and achieving, helps us to recognise our values and experience greater meaning in life.   This is important because feeling a higher level of meaning is linked to higher levels of well-being and engagement. Intrigued? Lets do an exercise in the guise of a fortune teller writing your own “Letter from the Future”. The exercise is relevant in the principal of Positive Psychology, which is all about discovering and acknowledging your hopes and dreams.   Your dreams for the future can give you the impetus to set some more concrete goals for yourself and help you to notice opportunities in your daily life that might help you achieve what you wish. Creating your letter from the future Here’s the procedure. Choose a date some months or years ahead.   Then imagine that life has gone rather well.   Things have turned out the way you wanted them to.   You have generally been able to do the things you want and have behaved in the way you would prefer.   You’ve achieved goals that are important to you. Now, write yourself a letter telling yourself about the developments in your life.   Try to imagine how your life would feel if you were successful and fulfilled. As you write, try to relax and simply record your stream of consciousness.   You could treat yourself to a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine to kick start your thoughts, or do some exercise and then get writing while you enjoy the adrenaline boost. Here are some questions You might find it useful to devote different paragraphs to different aspects of your life.   Here are some questions you could answer: What have I achieved recently at work? What’s been happening in my family? How’s my health and fitness? As you write, try to avoid letting self-doubt creep in.   The aim is to boldly write the scenario you would love to have come true. It doesn’t have to be written! I know that not everyone enjoys writing so please don’t be turned off by the concept of a letter.   This activity can be done in various ways.   One of my clients recently recorded a “voice message from the future”.   She found chatting into her phone felt much more natural.   Drawing, painting or collecting images are also great outlets. The important thing is you’re finding a way to express your vision of how things are at a specific moment in the future. What next? Once you’ve created your letter, allow yourself some time to ponder it.   Are there any surprises in it?   Did you find yourself writing passionately about things you hadn’t thought much about before?   Your letter is there to give you clues about how to build your most personally satisfying future and inspire you to start putting concrete goals in place to make your vision become reality. I hope you find your letter enlightening and encouraging! Job Interview Techniques with Martin Buckland and Diane Hudson

Job Interview Techniques with Martin Buckland and Diane Hudson Job Interview Techniques Techniques are vital for ensuring you make a great first impression. Heres an interview with Diane Hudson an experienced interview coach to share her top job interview technique tips. Martin: Hello, my name is Martin Buckland. Im an executive career management practitioner and its my job to get people to the interview stage. Then its over to them. My colleague, Diane Hudson, who does a lot of interview coaching and interview tutoring is going to give you tips. So Diane, what is your number one tip for interviewing? Diane: Once you prepare your resume and youve put together all of your accomplishment stories for your resume, you have actually prepared yourself for the interview. Because the interview is storytelling. Its about creating a vision and painting a picture in the mind of the person that is going to listen to you. As you prepare for that interview, you go through those stories and you tell them again, and you tell them in more detail. Prepare for things. If theyre going to ask you a question such as, give us an example of your ability to resolve conflict in the work environment, you look at all your stories. You can actually make a little matrix and you can number your stories out. Then you can list which story will hit the question of conflict management, budgeting, change management, etc. And then you can make your own grid. Preparing your resume and your LinkedIn profile well will prepare you for the interview. Martin: Interviewing is a two-way street. Its not just the interviewer or the interview panel asking you questions, open it up to them. Its a conversation. Its a meeting of the minds to see whether theres a fit. So you need to go into the interview being prepared to ask questions of the interviewer. Make it a two-way street. Its not a one-way street. Diane: A final comment about interviewing would be making that first amazing impression. That impression happens the minute that you walk into an office. It might be how you treat the receptionist as you are greeted and escorted in. It might be the way youre dressed that day or the way you communicate. Are you stuttering? Are you saying ums and likes and uhhs. Practice interviewing and really becoming polished and professional at the interview process to make that solid first impression. In 17 seconds that impression is solidified and you have about two minutes after that. If there are 200 people that applied and its down to five people getting interviewed, whats going to make the difference? It could be that first impression. First impressions count. Relevant Coursework on a Resume

Relevant Coursework on a Resume There is often a great deal of debate about what should and should not be included in a person’s resume. Take your educational achievements, for example. While you will certainly include your educational degrees within an education section, what about more specific details? Have you ever found yourself wondering whether that prospective employer might also be interested in reading about your coursework? Here are some things to consider before you include relevant coursework on a resume. What Position Are You Applying For? You should always start by considering the position. Some positions have educational requirements where everyone has basically the same educational background. Others may have few educational requirements at all. Before you decide to include relevant coursework on a resume, you need to ask yourself whether it matters. For most career-level positions, however, the inclusion of relevant coursework on a resume can often provide more gravitas to an otherwise-thin set of qualifications. How Much Job Experience Do You Have? That leads us to the second question you need to ask. Do you have the type of job experience you need to convince an employer that you’re the right person for the position? If you’re a recent graduate, chances are that you have little to no relevant job experience. That leaves you with two options: submit a resume with no real experience, or add relevant coursework to bolster your credibility. Obviously, the first option is a non-starter if you want to receive serious consideration. By including relevant coursework on a resume, you can at least demonstrate competence in those areas of expertise. While coursework is not the equivalent of actual hands-on experience, it can often be enough to sway an employer who is impressed with the rest of your resume. Remember, the whole goal of a resume is to garner enough interest to net you an interview. These little details may be just what you need to get that consideration. Tips for Listing Relevant Coursework on a Resume If your experience is thin and you need to focus on relevant coursework, there are a few tips you need to keep in mind. Use them to help guide you as you add these details to your resume. Carefully consider the placement of relevant coursework on a resume. For positions that emphasize educational achievements, you may want to list coursework near the top. If the position relies on skill and experience, you should probably include these details in the skills section. For other job types, you can just include them in your education section.Make sure that the coursework is relevant to the position. There’s no need to list classes that have little relation to the job you’re seeking. If you’re including relevant coursework on a resume, include a high GPA as well as any academic awards that you may have earned.Add any extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, or special projects that showcase relevant skills.Taken any online courses? Don’t forget to include those too!Include keywords from the job posting. This reinforces the relevance of your included coursework details, and can also help your resume get past the ATS. Listing Relevant Coursework on a Resume â€" Example There are a couple of acceptable ways to list your relevant coursework on a resume. Your choice should be based on need. If you have some experience and just want to bolster your credentials, you can take a simple approach to this information. Recent graduates will want to spend more time on this section to emphasize its importance. Relevant or related coursework is appropriate when listing your courses. Here are some examples: Option One: When your resume already includes some relevant experience If you have relevant experience to list on your resume, you can include your relevant coursework in that section. You don’t need to include a lot of details, though. Instead, you can address your coursework using a format like this: Bachelor of Science, Marketing, Best College USA Relevant Coursework: Advertising, Copywriting, Sales Management, E-Marketing, Brand Management Option Two: For recent grads with no relevant experience If your resume needs to emphasize education over experience, then you might want to use a different format altogether. The example below can serve as a template when you’re listing relevant coursework on a resume: EDUCATION Best College USA, AnyTown, AnyState May 20XX Bachelor of Science in Marketing Cumulative GPA: 3.9 RELEVANT MARKETING COURSEWORK Advertising Concepts Practical Application, Best College Marketing Department Fall 20XX-Spring 20XX Explored advertising theory and history Analyzed ad-market dynamics Developed effective advertising campaigns for partner businesses in the area Brand Management 101, Best College Marketing Department Spring 20XX Hands-on program working in collaboration with area merchants Successfully rebranded two major employers in the area Developed proposed brand-enhancing campaigns for six other employers Relevant Coursework on a Resume Can Make a Real Difference! Like many job-seekers, you may not be thrilled at the prospect of listing your relevant coursework on a resume. Still, those details can sometimes be crucial for establishing yourself as a viable candidate for a job. So, if you’re a recent graduate, be sure to include that relevant information in your resume. You just might find that your educational achievements are the one thing that pushes you past your rivals and gets you that all-important interview!
